Garajonay National Park is located in the middle of the island of La Gomera in the western part of the Canary Islands archipelago in the Spanish Atlantic region. It covers an area of 39 km2. Laurel forest covers approximately 70% of the park. The presence of springs and numerous streams has allowed the development of lush Palaeogene-Neogene vegetation; due to climatic changes, similar vegetation has largely disappeared from southern Europe.
