Gaolingcun Village is located in Ehu Town, Fuliang County, Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province. It is the source of the kaolin soil and kaolin stone that gives these two geological terms their names. Kaolinite mining in Gaoling Village was active for more than 1,200 years from the Southern and Northern Dynasties until 1969, when the reserves were depleted. During this period, it contributed greatly to the success of Chinese civilisation and the development of the ceramics industry in many ways. The Gaolingcun kaolin deposit is located in a white muscovite and pegmatite weathering belt and in fractures in the Yanshanian Ehu rock mass. The ores are in sandy and lumpy forms. The ore sand comes from weathered muscovite granite, whereas the ore lumps are formed by dissolving and leaching of weathered pegmatites and granites by surface water and groundwater along fractures. The deposit is now a geo-tourism landscape (Fig. 1).
