Maps showing different parts of the park have different functions. These maps can include the reception area (main entrance or gate), geological landscape areas, cultural landscape areas, natural or ecological areas (e.g., surface and forest), science education areas, geological heritage protection areas, indigenous reserves or locations and park management areas. These functional areas can be merged, separated or vacant. When a geopark contains several scenic areas or districts, each should have a separate functional zoning map. Each functional zoning map should have a clear boundary and should correspond to the local government’s overall land use plan as a guide for development. Because geological heritage protection areas have their own special maps, this function zoning map should mark the most important protection area or geosite. Other geological heritage protection zones can be grouped into the geological landscape area.
