A forest park is a natural park that is mainly composed of a planted or natural forest. It is integrated with other landscapes. Its main objectives are to popularise forest science knowledge and to provide the public with health and leisure. Forests can beautify the environment, regulate the climate, purify the air, and absorb dust and toxic gases, and ‘forest baths’ also have unique health effects. Therefore, many countries around the world have established forest parks. As of the end of 1998, China had established 870 forest parks with a total area of 7.48 million km2, which accounts for more than 0.78% of the total land area of China. Of these, 292 national forest parks had a total area of 5.3 million km2.
