Synonym:Fiamme fragment, Magma fragment
Magma fragments are also known as plastic fragments or fiamme. These broken fragments form when magma in a plastic viscous state explodes. The fragments have flame-like, branched, spindle-shaped or banded shapes. When the fiamme is orientated in a specific array pattern due to flowing and flattening effects, it is called a pseudo-flow structure or a quasi-flow structure. Magma fragments are indicative of welded pyroclastic debris (Fig. 6).
