In Chinese, estuary is also known as a triangular harbour. An estuary is a trumpet-shaped bay at a river inlet. Estuarine bays form due to land subsidence or rising sea level, where tidal action is significant. Typical examples are Hangzhou Bay at the estuary of the Qiantang River in China and the Rio de la Plata estuary in South America (Fig. 10).
