An angular unconformity is simply called an unconformity. This term refers to an obvious sedimentary discontinuity between two rock strata in the same location. Angular unconformities form due to prolonged denudation. After the underlying rock layer forms, intense crustal movement causes the upper and lower strata to have different attitudes.
