Environmental geology is the study of the relationship between the geological environment and humans that involves understanding and addressing problems created by natural or human-induced environmental issues and geological disasters. It includes practical applications of the knowledge and methodologies used by geology and environmental science. It is an important part of environmental science as well as a branch of modern geological science. Its main research areas include problems in the geological environment caused by geological phenomena and processes, natural disasters associated with geology and the application and protection of the geological environment.
