En echelon faults are a series of oblique fractures with similar attitudes and mechanical properties. They are generally banded and form a transform shear zone between two rock blocks. En echelon faults can be categorised as tensional shear faults and compressional shear faults. The relative direction of shearing motion can accurately be determined based on the mechanical properties of the fault.
