An economic region is also known as a comprehensive economic zone. Different levels and distinctive regional economic units are formed based on the division of labour in the region. An economic region is a regional production complex with a central city as the core, agriculture as the foundation, industry as the main component, and transportation and commodity circulation as related components. They work together to establish well-developed internal and national economic relations. Currently, with the growth of the tourism industry and its impacts on the surrounding areas, many regions have successively established tourism economic zones, such as the Taishan Tourism Economic Development Zone and the Hainan Tourism Economic Zone.
