Under conditions of increasing temperature (or increasing temperature and pressure), the existing rock melts and fuses to form new magma; this process is called anatexis. In general, the anatexis process does not involve the addition of new materials. The process is characterized by sequential melting from low-melting point minerals (such as feldspar and quartz) to high-melting point minerals.
