This park is located in the Dongchuan District to the north of Kunming City, Yunnan Province, and covers an area of approximately 238 km2. It was designated as one of the second group of national mining parks by the Ministry of Land and Resources of the PRC in May 2010. Based on the different functions, the park is divided into five scenic areas: a copper cultural display and visitor centre, ancient mining heritage display area, copper transportation path sightseeing area, modern mining heritage sightseeing and experience area, and the Red Land Natural Landscape Sightseeing Area. The park features mining production activity heritage, the remains of mining products and features of mining social life, including ancient and modern copper mining heritage, copper mining methods, bronzeware, coins and bornite products. Some of these mining features represent the advanced scientific and technological knowledge in China at that period.
