This heritage site is located in the Andalusian Autonomous Region in southwestern Spain. The coastal delta, which borders the Bay of Cadiz, has a core protection area of 543 km2. The park features a wide variety of biological community habitats, notably lagoons, marshlands, fixed sand, moving sand dunes, dwarf bushes and high bushes. The park is home to five endangered bird species and is the largest heron nesting area in the Mediterranean region. It also provides a wintering base for more than 500,000 waterbirds every year.
