Reference work entry
DOI: https://doi.org/10.1007/978-981-13-2538-0_520

This is a kind of circular depression landscape on top of the loess, ‘Yuan’, Liang’ and ‘Taiyuan’ loess. The depressions form due to the localised accumulation of water, which erodes and dissolves the interior of the loess layers, causing land subsidence. In general, the depressions are 2–3 m deep with diameters of approximately 20 m. They are a typical feature of the early-stage loess gullies or loess sinkholes.
