This is a lake that is formed by tectonic subsidence. It is located southwest of Kunming City and, along with Xishan (West Hill) on the western side of the lake, it has become a famous sightseeing destination and health resort. This lake is fed by several rivers, including the Panlong River. The lake has an elevation of 1,886 m, an area of 330 km2, an average depth of 5 m, and a maximum depth of 8 m. The lake water flows southwest to the ocean via the Tonglang (Mantis) River, which is the upper course of the Jinsha River’s tributary, the Puduo River. This lake has long been considered the ‘Pearl of the Highland’ and a key scenic area of Kunming that is rich in natural and cultural landscapes (Fig. 14).
