This park is located 12.50 km west of Datong City and is on the opposite river bank of the famous Yungang Grottoes. It covers a total area of 19 km2. It was approved by the Ministry of Land and Resources as the first national mine park in August 2005. It is divided into the Mawushan Scenic Area, Nanshan Scenic Area, Coal Sea Hero Scenic Area, a coal mine science and technology exhibition area, an underground exploration science exhibition area, a coal culture development area, a rest and recuperation area, a reception area, and a waterfront park.
