This geopark is located in Huanggang, Hubei, and has an area of 422 km2. It became a national geopark in 2009. The main geological features are typical metamorphic stratigraphic sections and metamorphosed granite (TTG rock series), granite geomorphic landscapes, an ultra-high-pressure metamorphic belt, a mixed ophiolite complex, structural features and water landscapes. The geopark contains standard sections and outcrops of the Muzidian Formation, Dabieshan Group and Hong’an Group. The Archaean TTG rock type (approximately 2.8 billion years old) is the original granite in the Dabieshan area. The ultra-high-pressure metamorphic belt and the mixed ophiolite complex in Yangshuyan in Yingshan County form the boundary between the North China and South China plates.
