Cross-bedding is a layering that forms in sedimentary media due to fluid flow, and it is composed of a series of layers that dip at an angle to the main bedding plane. The inclined layers can cut through, cross or overlap each other. Based on the shapes, relations and properties of the inclined layers and the upper and lower interfaces, cross-bedding can be divided into wedge cross-bedding, trough cross-bedding, planar cross-bedding and other flowing-water type cross-bedding (Fig. 58).
