When a glacier flows through a large mass of bedrock, the ice cannot entirely cover the mound, and the top is exposed above the ice. The mound surface facing the on-coming ice is subject to strong abrasion, and the lee accumulates glacial moraines with a long tail. The entire feature looks like a nose; hence, it is called a nose-hill-and-tail or a crag and tail landscape.
