This landform is composed of elliptical bedrock depressions shaped by glaciers near the snowline due to the processes of nivation and glacial erosion. The initial form is a snow spot, and a cirque forms after further glacial erosion and abrasion. A typical cirque is composed of a rock basin, a back wall and a cross wall. The bottom is the rock basin. It is semi-circular and is surrounded by steep walls on three sides. A threshold is located near its exit.
