This is a type of glacial lake landscape. A cirque forms through glacial erosion on a mountain. When the glacier retreats, the cirque fills with meltwater to form a lake. Cirque lakes are common in alpine regions and are often distributed regularly at specific elevations, which represent the locations of ancient snowlines. The Luhuomahai in Sichuan Province is a typical and reliable evidence of ancient glacial action.
