Circum-Pacific Volcanic Belt
This is a volcanic belt along the eastern and western edges of the Pacific Ocean. Volcanoes are distributed along the plate edges. Approximately two-thirds of the world’s active volcanoes are concentrated on the Pacific Rim. The western Pacific Rim starts from Indonesia and the Philippines and extends north via Japan to Kamchatka. The eastern Pacific Rim extends from North America through Central America to South America. Both rims constitute the Circum-Pacific volcanic belt, which is also called ‘the Ring of Fire’.
