According to the requirements of the State Council’s ‘Outline of National Eco-environmental Protection’, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Chinese Academy of Sciences jointly prepared this zoning policy and officially announced it on 18 July 2008. The policy paper includes the ideology, principles and objectives, zoning method and basis, national zoning plan, types and overview of ecological function areas, national important ecological function areas, protection and implementation.
