This geopark is located in Zhenghe County, Nanping City, Fujian Province, and it has a total area of 146 km2. Its main geological features are concentrated in an area of 35 km2. It was designated as a national geopark by the Ministry of Land and Resources in December 2011. The geopark is dominated by volcanic geology, including volcanic rock strata, pyroclastic rocks, sedimentary pyroclastic rocks, pyroclastic flame rocks, volcanic structures, edifices and landforms. The geopark also contains various valley landforms, water landscapes, ecological landscapes and geological disaster heritage landscapes that are of great scientific value for studying the formation and evolution of regional geology and geomorphology. The geological heritage in the geopark completely illustrates the geological characteristics of the Mesozoic Pacific volcanic chain and also serves as a key to understanding the evolution of crustal movements and landforms in China’s southeastern coastal areas.
