Chelmos-Vouraikos Geopark, Greece

This geopark is located on the Peloponnese Peninsula in northern Greece and has an area of 0.99 km². It became a member of the Global Geopark Network in 2009. The area is in the Shermer Mountains, which is the source of four rivers. The Hermes Mountains have experienced millions of years of flowing water, and the geology has taken on various forms, including the magnificent Vura Icos Gorge, the beautiful caves in the Lake District, the cool springs of the Aroanios River and the Styx. There are many geological structures (e.g., conglomerates and limestones), rare plants and butterflies in the Kuraei Canyon in Voraei. Visitors can also visit the village of Zachlorou to taste the local food and visit the museum of the Mega Spilaio monastery.
