Xinchang Petrified Wood National Geopark, Zhejiang

This geopark is located in Xinchang County, Zhejiang Province, and became a national geopark in 2004. It is located in the Xinchang Basin, which formed on the continental margin of southeastern China in the Cretaceous. The geological relics are mainly Danxia landforms and silicified wood, especially ancient Cretaceous forests. Six layers of silicified wood are buried in the geopark, including more than 300 silicified trees over nearly 6 km², with a maximum diameter of 3.50 m and trunk lengths up to 16 m. The trees were buried in different forms, including regular, upright and recumbent, with some preserved roots or branches. The degree of silicification is low, the stone is hard, the trees are in different shapes, and the wood structure and growth rings are clearly preserved.
