Xiaoshanba Bauxite Deposit, Xiuwen, Guizhou

This was the first large bauxite mine in China and is also one of the most important domestic bauxite mining areas. Discovered in 1941, the Xiaoshanba bauxite deposit is located in Xiuwen County, Guizhou Province. The bauxite ore is located in the Lower Carboniferous Xiangbai Formation. The ore is of the ‘re-deposited ancient weathered karst bauxite bed’ or ‘depositional bauxite bed’ type (Fig. 3).
