This geopark is located in the southern foothills of the central Tian Shan on the northwestern margin of the Tarim Basin. It became a national geopark in 2011. Its geological heritage can be classified into five major categories, eight categories and 13 sub-categories. The salt diapirs are unique to China and the world. The Aqikekule salt dome, which covers an area of approximately 16 km2, is a typical salt dome with a height of 500 m, and it is the largest salt dome in China. The salt domes in the park have high scientific and ornamental value. Their types and scales have international significance.
