This site is located in the Primorsky region on the Pacific coast of Russia’s Far Eastern Federal District. The core protection area covers 15,539 km2. The heritage site contains some of the richest and most unusual temperate forests in the world. In this confluence of northern and southern subtropical forests, southern species, such as Asian tigers and Himalayan wild bears, coexist in harmony with northern species, such as brown bears and clams. The vast area of the heritage site extends from the peaks of the Seahort-Alin Mountains at approximately 2,000 m above sea level to the Sea of Japan, providing an important habitat for the survival of many endangered animals, such as the Siberian tiger.
