This site is located in Kamchatka Krai on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia. After an extension in 2001, the site now covers a core protection area of 38,302 km2. Due to the numerous active volcanos, diverse types of volcanoes and volcanic phenomena, the site is the most outstanding volcanic area in the world. The site consists of six sequentially designated protected areas and includes the majority of the volcanic features on the Kamchatka Peninsula. The interactions between active volcanoes and glaciers have shaped the spectacular dynamic natural beauty.
