This is an earthquake caused by volcanic activity. During the volcanic process, magma can shake the surrounding rocks and cause vibrations. The resulting earthquakes can occur prior to or concurrent with volcanic eruptions. Volcanic earthquakes are not common and only represent approximately 7% of all earthquakes. Their main characteristics are that the source is limited to the region of volcanic activity, and the earthquakes are shallow and do not exceed a depth of 10 km. The earthquakes are usually large and are not associated with a major fault. Their impact is usually confined and small.
