This is a type of ecological landscape in hot wet regions with abundant rainfall, comprising lush woodland communities. The species composition is extremely rich, and most plants are woody species of the more than 45,000 higher plant species. The vegetation is mostly tall and dense with a general height over 30 m. From the canopy to the ground, there are 5–8 overlapping layers. The dominant trees can be up to 30–40 m high. Most have smooth bark, and some have buttress roots and are cauliflory. There are also large numbers of climbers and epiphytic plants. This landscape system is evergreen, and with adequate food and a favourable environment, it supports a wide range of fauna, especially reptiles, amphibians and insects.
