Tropical Monsoon Climate

This type of climate is mainly found in the eastern parts of the regions between the 10°N and S latitudes and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. It is the typical climate of the Indochina Peninsula and the subcontinent of India, which are affected by southwest monsoons. The southern part of Yunnan in China and the southeastern slopes of the Himalayas have similar climates. The annual temperature is higher than 20°C. During the year, the direction of the prevailing wind changes significantly. Because it is controlled by equatorial air masses in the summer, precipitation is abundant and makes the summer the rainy season. In the winter, the precipitation is greatly reduced by continental air masses, which creates the dry season. The annual precipitation is between 1,500 and 2,000 mm, and 80–90% falls during the rainy season. The climate supports the growth of tropical monsoon forests in the region.
