This is a system of interrelated tourism earth science resources that is integrated within the areas accessible to human beings. Based on the concentric structure of the Earth, earth resources can be categorised into six major systems, 47 landscape types and 159 landscape sub-types. Based on each landscape’s composition, geographical distribution, formation factors, grouping forms and scenic characteristics, each landscape sub-type can be further sub-divided into more specific landscape character units. For example, the clastic tourism earth science landscape sub-type can be further sub-divided into the Zhangshiyan-type landscape, Zhangjiajie-type landscape, Wu’urhe-type wind-eroded castle landscape, Danxia-type landscape, Zhangye sandstone colourful hill-type landscape, Taiwan Yeliu-type landscape, Luliang-type multi-coloured sand forest landscape, Yuanmou-type soil forest landscape, Qian’an mud forest landscape and Yardang landscape (Table 3).
