Toponomy is the study of the names of places, including their origins, composition, meaning, evolution, distribution patterns, standardization and functions of reading and writing as well as their relationship with the natural and social environments. In tourism research, the knowledge of toponymy is often used to explore the natural, historical and cultural resources for designating tourist destinations.
