The Pantanal Conservation Area, Brazil
This conservation area is located in southwestern Mato Grosso in Brazil and in northwestern Mato Grosso do Sul in southern Brazil, adjacent to the Bolivian border. It consists of four independent conservation areas that cover a core conservation area of 1,878 km2. Although it only accounts for 1.3% of Brazil’s land area, Pantanal is one of the largest freshwater wetland ecosystems in the world. The reserve contains the sources of the Cuyaba River and the Paraguay River, and it has excellent vegetation and wildlife species diversity.
