In 2004, the Standing Committee of the Geological Society of China decided to rename the ‘Committee of Tourism Earth Science, Geological Society of China’ to the ‘Chinese Academy of Tourism Earth Science and Geopark Research, Geological Society of China’. At the 20th National Academic Meeting of Tourism Earth Science in June 2005, the Chinese Academy of Tourism Earth Science and Geopark Research, Geological Society of China, was formally established. The incorporation of geopark research created a solid platform for the development of tourism earth science and marked a new era of tourism earth science.
