Synonym: Continental facies
Terrestrial facies, also called continental facies, are deposits, rocks or strata that form in terrestrial environments. Based on the depositional environment and sediment characteristics, terrestrial facies can be further divided into fluvial facies, remnant facies, diluvial facies, proluvial facies, lacustrine facies, swamp facies, desert facies and glacial facies. Terrestrial facies are characterized by numerous rock types and significant lateral changes. Common rock types are clastic rocks and clay rocks, but some terrestrial lakes and swamps mainly contain chemical and biochemical rocks (Table 2).
