On January 12, 2006, the Ministry of Construction issued the first tentative list of national natural and cultural heritage (mixed) in China, including 13 national-level scenic areas and their nearby areas of expansion. In 2009, the Ministry of Construction issued the second tentative list of national natural and cultural heritage in China, which consisted of eight heritage units with five national-level scenic areas.
