Temperate desert climates are located in the temperate continental hinterlands and are characterized by arid, extremely arid desert climates. The seasonal and daily temperatures vary with hot summers and cold winters as well as warm days and cold nights. Clouds are few and small, and sunshine is extensive with strong solar radiation. These regions are extremely dry with very little rainfall (less than 200 mm per annum). Some areas, such as Central Asia and the Tarim Basin in China, have no rain for many years. The natural landscape includes desert vegetation with sparsely distributed desert plants.
