This is a water-filled lowland depression landscape formed by tectonic movements, displacements on faults or geological depressions. Examples are Lake Baikal in Russia, Lake Tanganyika in Africa, the Dead Sea in Jordan and China’s Qinghai Lake, Dianchi Lake and Erhai Lake. These lakes are associated with uplifted fault-block mountains. Famous lakes and famous mountains often occur in pairs, such as Dianchi Lake and West Mountain, Erhai Lake and Cangshan Mountain, and Qinghai Lake and Riyue Mountain.
