Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona, Switzerland

The Sardona Geological Zone is located along the border between Glarus and Graubünden in eastern Switzerland, and it has a core protection area of 328 km². The elevations of the peaks exceed 3,000 m. There are seven mountains in the area, which highlight the orogeny caused by continental collision and the characteristic geological features formed by the collision, and such activity had eventually compressed the sequence of rocks. The heritage site clearly shows the geological structure and processes in three dimensions. Since the eighteenth century, this area has been an important scientific research site for the geological science community. Glarus, in the Alps, is home to a series of mountains separated by narrow valleys that have been eroded by glaciers. It is the largest post-glacial landslide site in the central Alps.
