A swamp is an area with a wet surface or thin layers of water associated with the growth of water and marsh plants. Marsh wetlands are some of the most important ecosystems on earth and account for approximately 0.8% of the land area. Swamps also indicate the presence of peat. China’s swamps are mainly located in the Sanjiang Plain, Daxing’anling and Xiaoxing’anling Ranges in Northeast China, the Zoige Plateau in Sichuan and along the ocean, lakes and rivers.
