Carboniferous-Permian Type Section in Guizhou

This section is one of the most important stratigraphic sections in southern China and contains intact Carboniferous and Permian outcrops with abundant corals, brachiopods and dragonfly fossils. It is located in the Guiyang, Dushan, Huishui, Panxian and Ziyun areas and includes all seven stages of the Carboniferous and five stages of the Middle and Lower Permian. From the bottom to the top, the sequence includes the Yanguan Stage, Datang Stage and Dewu Stage of the Lower Carboniferous Series, the Luosu Stage, Huashiban Stage, Dala Stage and Xiaoyao Stage of the Upper Carboniferous Series, the Zisong Stage and Longlin Stage of the Lower Permian Series, and the Qixia, Xiangbo and Maokou Stages of the Middle Permian Series (Fig. 8).
