This geopark is located on the eastern coast of Canada and has an area of 2,500 km2. It became a global geopark in 2010. The geopark is the birthplace of Canadian geology. The landscape is the result of plate collisions, oceanic opening, volcanic and seismic activity, ice ages and climate change. The folded Cambrian rocks record the evolution of life from the Cambrian explosion to the evolution of vertebrates and the emergence of terrestrial organisms. The park records almost all of the geological events from the early Cambrian period to the most recent glacial period. As the location of the beginning of Canadian geology, the park also has great historical significance.
