The 50 states in the United States have established their own state park systems. State parks were established and developed occurred earlier than national parks. The first state park was the Indian Hot Spring State Park in Georgia, which dates to 1825. Since then, it has been a public park administered by the state government. It was not officially recognised as a ‘State Park’ until 1931. The state park systems of most US states were founded during Roosevelt’s New Deal in the 1930s, during which the Civilian Conservation Corps (abbreviated as CCC) played an important role in the early phases of park development. Currently, there are as many as 6,624 state parks, which make important contributions to natural conservation, outdoor recreation, tourism, learning and education.
