This heritage site is located in southern China, including the provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou and Chongqing City. It has a core protection area of 476 km2. The total karst area of southern China covers more than 500,000 km2 and is an outstanding representative of humid tropical and subtropical karst landscapes around the world. Yunnan Shilin is a world-class karst landform with a wide variety of shapes and colours and forms first-class natural scenery. The Guizhou Bolangjiang River is a world-class example of pyramidal and towering karst topography. Chongqing Wulong’s karsts contain large-scale tiankengs, natural arches and caves.
