This site, which contains the location of the Burgess Shale fossils, is located in Yoho National Park in the Rocky Mountains. After two extensions in 1984 and 1990, the site was renamed ‘Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks’ and now covers the contiguous national parks of Banff and Jasper (Alberta Province), Kootenay and Yoho (British Columbia), Mount Robson, Mount Assiniboine and three provincial parks in Hamber (British Columbia). It has a core protection area of 23,069 km2. It includes the watersheds of three oceans, namely, the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Arctic Ocean. It is studded with mountain peaks, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, canyons and limestone caves, which form a striking mountain landscape.
