This cluster is located in Shishan Town and Yongxing Town, south of Haikou City. There are more than 40 volcanoes, including lava cones and shield volcanoes, that formed from magmatic eruptions. Typical examples are Fenglu Ridge, Changdao Ridge, Leihu Ridge and Yongmao Ridge. There are also low flat craters associated with phreatomagmatic eruptions, such as Shuangchi Ridge and Lojingpan. Lava tunnels also formed associated with the volcano development. Their number and scale rank first in China. Typical examples are the Seventy-Two Caves and the Fairy Cave. This volcanic landscape enriches the tropical ecological landscape. The combination of the volcanoes and the local inhabitants creates a volcanic folklore culture. This volcanic cluster is China’s only volcanic showcase of Quaternary basalt associated with a tropical island city.
