Shilongite is a unique variety of basalt that is rich in potassium. Shilongite is rare, and it is only found at Laoheishan and Huoshaoshan in Wudalianchi, Heilongjiang Province. It gets its name because the lava flow looks like a shilong, which is translated literally as a stone dragon. Its main minerals include olivine, pyroxene, leucite, sanidine and volcanic glass. The leucite and sanidine form the main matrix, which has a cryptocrystalline pattern. The shilongite in Laoheishan contains approximately 1–5% leucite, but the shilongite in Huoshaoshan does not contain any leucite.
